Getting started

Installing a modpack

A complete setup path for installing a Veylath modpack and getting ready to play.

Beginner friendly Official sources only

Ready to explore Veylath? This guide will walk you through downloading a Minecraft modpack, installing it with SKLauncher, and joining our server.

We’ll use SKLauncher for the main walkthrough. If you have a legitimate Minecraft: Java Edition account and prefer a more streamlined experience, you can also use GDLauncher Carbon. The general process is similar, although the interface differs.

Before you begin: Minecraft modpacks can contain hundreds of mods. Make sure you have enough storage space, memory, and time for the initial download. Large modpacks can take several minutes to start for the first time.

1. Choose your modpack

First, visit the Veylath Servers page and choose the world you want to play in.

  • Prominence II: Hasturian Era — our fantasy RPG experience, featuring exploration, progression, combat, and a large collection of mods.
  • Cozy Modpack — our relaxed, community-focused experience. Check its server page for the current modpack and installation instructions.

Open the selected server’s page and follow its official modpack download link.

Important: Use the correct version

Always install the exact modpack version specified on the Veylath server page. Modpacks can receive updates that change their mods, configuration, or compatibility. Installing a different version may prevent you from joining the server.

Download the client modpack or use the launcher’s normal modpack installation feature. Do not install a dedicated server pack as your client modpack unless the instructions explicitly tell you to do so.

2. Download and install SKLauncher

SKLauncher is a third-party launcher for Minecraft: Java Edition that supports Microsoft accounts and offline profiles.

Only download it from an official SKLauncher website. Avoid unofficial mirrors and websites offering modified installers.

Windows installation

  1. Open the official download page.
  2. Download the recommended Windows Setup installer.
  3. Open the downloaded .exe file.
  4. Follow the installation wizard.
  5. Once installation finishes, open SKLauncher from your desktop or Start menu.

The Windows Setup installer handles the launcher’s Java requirements for you. You normally do not need to install Java manually.

macOS and Linux

Download the appropriate installer or package from the official SKLauncher download page and follow its platform-specific installation instructions.

If you’re using a portable build, additional Java setup may be required.

3. Sign in to SKLauncher

When you open SKLauncher, choose the login method appropriate for your account.

Option A: Microsoft account

Choose Microsoft sign-in if you own Minecraft: Java Edition.

  1. Select the Microsoft login option.
  2. Complete the sign-in process in your browser.
  3. Return to SKLauncher after authentication succeeds.

This is the recommended option for players who own the game.

Option B: SKLauncher or offline profile

Players who don’t have a Microsoft-authenticated Minecraft account can use SKLauncher’s offline login feature, but offline profiles can only join servers configured to accept offline-mode connections.

  1. Open SKLauncher.
  2. Choose the offline login option.
  3. Enter your desired in-game username.
  4. Sign in and return to the launcher.

An offline username is not proof of ownership of a Microsoft account. Some servers may also require additional authentication.

Registering an SKLauncher account is optional. An account is useful for SKLauncher profile features such as custom skins and capes, but registration is not required just to try the launcher.

Note: Your choice of launcher does not determine whether a server accepts offline players. Check the account requirements on the Veylath server page before connecting.

4. Install your modpack in SKLauncher

The installation process depends on which SKLauncher version you’re using.

Method A: SKLauncher 4.0 beta

SKLauncher 4.0 introduces built-in modpack installation from CurseForge and Modrinth. It is currently a beta release, so some features and interface details may change.

  1. Visit the official SKLauncher 4.0 website.
  2. Select the Beta download channel and download the installer for your operating system.
  3. Install and open SKLauncher 4.0.
  4. Sign in using your preferred supported account option.
  5. Open the launcher’s library or instance-creation interface.
  6. Browse the available modpacks and choose the relevant platform, such as CurseForge or Modrinth.
  7. Search for the exact modpack specified on the Veylath server page.
  8. Select the correct release/version and begin installation.
  9. Let the launcher finish downloading the modpack, its dependencies, and the required game files.
  10. Once the installation completes, select the new instance and click Play.

The launcher should handle the required mod loader and Java runtime for the selected pack.

If you can’t find the modpack, check that you selected the correct platform and that the pack is available there. Do not substitute a different modpack just because its name looks similar.

Method B: SKLauncher 3.2 stable

SKLauncher 3.2 is the stable release. Its interface and modpack support differ from version 4.0.

  1. Open SKLauncher.
  2. Navigate to the Installations Manager.
  3. Open the modpack browser or installation options available in your version.
  4. Browse the available Modrinth modpacks.
  5. Search for the exact pack and version listed on Veylath.
  6. Select the pack and complete the installation.
  7. Return to the main launcher and start the installed profile.

What if the modpack is only available on CurseForge?

SKLauncher 3.2 does not provide the same built-in CurseForge modpack browsing experience as 4.0. For a CurseForge-only pack, use SKLauncher 4.0 beta or an alternative launcher that supports importing CurseForge packs, such as GDLauncher Carbon.

Do not simply extract an exported modpack ZIP into your .minecraft folder. Some modpack ZIP files contain a manifest and configuration overrides rather than all the actual mod files, so extracting the archive alone will not produce a complete installation.

For more information, see the official SKLauncher modding documentation.

5. First launch and initial setup

After installation, select your new modpack instance and click Play.

The first launch can take longer than usual because Minecraft may need to prepare files, load a large number of mods, and initialize the modpack’s resources.

Follow these recommendations:

  • Allow the game time to start. A large modpack may appear unresponsive for a while during initial loading.
  • Avoid repeatedly clicking Play or launching multiple copies while the first launch is still running.
  • Keep enough free disk space for downloaded files and future updates.
  • If the launcher reports that a file could not be downloaded, follow the error message and the modpack creator’s official instructions.

Once the main menu appears, wait for any required setup to finish before joining the server.

6. Allocate enough memory

Modded Minecraft generally needs more RAM than vanilla Minecraft. Large RPG modpacks can be especially demanding.

As a starting point, consider allocating around 6–8 GB of RAM to a large modpack if your computer has sufficient memory. Follow the pack’s published requirements when they differ.

A few guidelines:

  • On a computer with 8 GB of total system RAM, a very large modpack may struggle.
  • On a computer with 16 GB of total RAM, allocating approximately 6–8 GB can be a reasonable starting point.
  • Do not allocate all your computer’s memory to Minecraft. Your operating system and other applications need RAM too.
  • More allocated memory does not automatically mean better performance.

If the pack crashes with an out-of-memory error, close unnecessary applications and review the modpack’s recommended settings before increasing the allocation.

7. Join the Veylath server

Once the modpack reaches the main menu:

  1. Select Multiplayer.
  2. Click Add Server.
  3. Enter a recognizable server name, such as Veylath RPG.
  4. Enter the server address shown on its Veylath page.
  5. Save the entry and select Join Server.

Use the private server address shared directly with you and the version currently shown on the server page in case any connection details change.

Getting a version or mod mismatch error?

Check these details before troubleshooting anything else:

  • You installed the correct modpack.
  • The installed modpack version matches the server’s required version.
  • You are using the correct Minecraft account or offline profile for the server.
  • The installation finished without missing required files.
  • You have not added extra mods that change the pack’s compatibility.

If the game says that mods are missing, incompatible, or have different versions, return to the Veylath server page and confirm the exact client pack and release.

8. Installing with GDLauncher Carbon

GDLauncher Carbon is a good alternative, particularly for players who want a straightforward interface for managing multiple modpacks. It supports installing modpacks from CurseForge and Modrinth and manages Java runtimes for you.

Start here:

The general workflow is:

  1. Download GDLauncher Carbon from its official website.
  2. Install and open the launcher.
  3. Sign in using a supported account option.
  4. Open the modpack browser or instance-creation interface.
  5. Search for the modpack specified by Veylath.
  6. Choose the required release and click the installation option.
  7. Wait for the modpack and dependencies to finish downloading.
  8. Start the instance and connect using the server address listed on Veylath.

If Veylath provides an importable CurseForge ZIP or Modrinth .mrpack file, GDLauncher can also import supported pack files. Use the pack file import option for a fresh installation, rather than an instance-folder import intended to preserve an existing setup.

GDLauncher Carbon’s login options and interface may differ from SKLauncher, so follow the launcher’s current prompts.

9. Troubleshooting

The game crashes immediately

Check that you installed the correct modpack version and let the launcher finish downloading all required files. If the crash continues, look for a crash report and share it with the Veylath support team.

The launcher says a mod is missing

Some mods have restricted distribution settings, so a launcher may be unable to download every file automatically. Follow the modpack author’s official instructions for any unavailable files. Avoid unofficial reuploads or random download sites.

Do not randomly add replacement mods: even a seemingly similar mod may be incompatible with the pack.

Minecraft runs out of memory

Close unnecessary applications, check the pack’s recommended RAM allocation, and adjust the instance’s memory settings if your computer has enough available RAM.

The server rejects the connection

Confirm that you’re using the correct server address, modpack release, and account type. Offline profiles can only connect to servers that explicitly support offline-mode players.

The modpack downloads but never finishes starting

The first start can take longer than a vanilla Minecraft launch. If it repeatedly fails, check the launcher error message, game log, and crash report. Avoid deleting your entire Minecraft folder as a first troubleshooting step.

Where can I get help?

Visit the Veylath community through the Discord link on our website. When reporting a problem, include your operating system, launcher name and version, modpack version, and any relevant crash report or error message.

Never share account passwords, authentication tokens, or other sensitive information when asking for support.

Quick checklist

Before joining Veylath, make sure you have:

  • Installed SKLauncher or GDLauncher Carbon from its official website.
  • Signed in with an account type accepted by the server.
  • Installed the correct modpack and exact version.
  • Let the launcher finish downloading all required files.
  • Allocated enough memory for the modpack.
